Many people struggle ‘reading music’ (otherwise known as traditional piano sheet music) which is the conventional way to learn to play classical piano music. DecPlay song sheets convert the complexity of traditional sheet music into an easy to read format, which enables beginners to play tunes on piano much easier and quicker.
Why DecPlay doesn’t show the rhythm of a song
The DecPlay sheets are designed for learning songs that you are already familiar with hearing. It is much easier and more fun to learn a song that you already love, than to learn one that you don’t know if you even like.
One of the ways in which the DecPlay format makes sheet music much easier, is that it doesn’t specify the rhythm of each note and instead harness the power of the natural musical ability that we all posses. If you can imagine a tune in your head, hum it or tap it out, then yo ualready know the rhythm, so don;t need to read it in the music.
Omitting the rhythm from the music has many advantages:-
- music is less cluttered to read and much faster to learn by removing written rhythm from the song sheet
- enables flexibility on what rhythm and pattern you choose to apply to the chord
- engages our natural musical talents, enabling us to ‘listen’ more to the music we are playing, use our ‘ear’ and memory to recall the rhythm of the tune. This is instead of the traditional approach of blindly following written instructions, which use the less creative parts of our brain and many people find ‘less fun’.
- assists with learning to play piano by ear, without needing any sheet music at all.
How to know the rhythm of a song
If you wish to learn a tune that you are not familiar with, I recommend that you listen to demonstrations or original recordings of the tune, so you become familiar with it, before you try to play it.
